International Federation of Competitive Eating - IFOCE

This is just… I don’t know. Are we running out of ideas for sports? I mean, I thought poker tournaments where a little on the odd side, but (http://www.ifoce.com/)?

“Daddy, when I grow up, I want a job eating as much as I can in 10 minutes.”

“Son, you’re an American. It’s in your blood.”

The winners of IFOCE santioned contests rarely win all that money, which is why most of these people have real jobs outside of it (Sonya Thomas…Burger King Manager, Tim Janus…Wall Street guy, etc.). I LOVE the whole idea behind this and have followed it really close the last 6 months. Both INHD and ESPN are now broadcasting events, which has made it gain alot of popularity.

I understand your point in that most people won’t consider it a sport, but think about it… It does take jaw training, stomach training, speed and technique to be able to do that these people do. Yeah, it’s not the same as hitting a baseball, but the point is, it still takes some skill that not everyone has.

  2. Mike, does your work know that you are wasting company resources browsing the internet and commenting on useless blog entries? I think NOT! Now get back to work.

    …and, it’s still not a sport ;)

I was still at home when I posted that :)

And it IS a sport! AND…I will be at the qualifier next year for the Uly 4th Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest! I was registered to attend this year’s, but Stacy had just had surgery and the timing was bad. At least the guy that won the qualifier here (Joey Chestnut), placed 3rd in the Nathan’s contest, which is pretty cool. He represented well!
