Jubelale 2008

From the great brewery Deschutes comes another phenomenal specimen of a beer. This is the third year running I’ve enjoyed their seasonal winter beer that is Jubelale. It has a rich malty flavor with an intense hop finish that warms the soul on a cold winter’s night. It’s really quite balanced and really crisp. This will definitely make it into my top ten for the year, and quite possibly into the top five. Thank you Deschutes for making my evenings just a little bit warmer.
Deschutes is one of the few breweries with which I have never been disappointed. I can honestly and whole heartedly recommend anything from their menu of fabulous offerings. While we’re on the subject, I am desperately seeking The Dissident. If anyone has seen some in Orange County, please drop me a line!

I was told by the Deschutes distributor agent that they would have Jubelale at my local BevMo in Pasadena but it isn’t there. If you are in orange county, where did you get yours? Thanks.
Whole Foods. I didn’t see any at Bev Mo tonight. Come to think of it, I didn’t see a whole lot seasonal stuff there. They had some imported holiday stuff (Delirium Noel, Golden Draak, etc), but not whole lot from the US.
Cool, thanks. I’ll check out Whole Foods. The BevMo here had pretty much every holiday Ale except Jubelale – Redhook, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, and 3 or 4 others. I only wish they would let you mix and match. The guy at Deschutes said that Bristol Farms Grocery Store also should have it.
I second your recommendation of Deschutes. I lived in Portland for a year last year, and got to take the tour in Bend and to get draft only selections at the pub. It was all first class stuff. Great people at the brewery too.
In case you are interested, from the email he sent me, perhaps you could get The Dissident: “You can also ask your favorite retailer to order Deschutes for you. Deschutes local Distributor is:
Classic Distributing & Beverage Co. 120 N Puente Ave. City of Industry, CA 91746 626-934-3700 “
This is definitely a hoppy beer, but I agree with the author that Deschutes rarely if ever disappoints. As a matter of fact, this is my lunch today! Speaking of where I got mine, it was the local Fred Meyer store in Eagle River, Alaska.
@Kevin That is my kind of lunch!
This is the first winter season that I’ve tried Jubelale and I was not disappointed. Like the author says, it is a great beer to enjoy when it is cold outside. I guess that must be part of the reason why the style is called “winter warmer.”
Another great West coast winter seasonal is Anderson Valley Brewing Company’s Winter Solstice.
I also did a review of Jubelale at my new blog: http://beer47.com/2009/01/jubelale-2008-review/
